Join us for a very reception and concert celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love and the opening of the museum's Counter-culture & Creativity program spotlighting the 1960s & 70s. Gallery talks with artists and curators and reception 4-5 PM

In addition to spiritual and lifestyle explorations, the counter-culture bloomed in the arts, and wildly inventive fashion grew into an astonishing national art-to-wear movement. Sophisticated artistry, originality, and craftsmanship, combined with functionality in vibrant one-of- a-kind garments.

 

EYE WITNESS TO A CULTURAL REVOLUTION: SELECTIONS FROM THE JON GOODCHILD COLLECTION Curated by Leslie Acoca Goodchild & Elia Haworth


Vintage photographs from the 1960s and 70s capture emerging stars-who fomented a cultural revolution that still rocks us today. Jon Goodchild (1941 - 1999) was the seminal Art Director for San Francisco's Rolling Stone magazine, and Straight Arrow Books. Goodchild settled in Bolinas in the 1970s.

 

SUE TAYLOR: HAND-KNOTTED RUGS
Sue Taylor has been making playful, labor-intensive hand knotted rugs since the 1970s. Taylor has lived in coastal Marin since 1968 and is featured in the iconic 1974 book Native Funk & Flash.

 

Also a new selection in the Permanent Collection Gallery and continuing exhibit in the

history room: A Pivotal Decade: The 1970s in Bolinas

 

OPENING COURTYARD CONCERTMARIA MULDAUR & HER RED HOT BLUESIANA BAND Saturday, June 17 / 5 - 7 PM / FREE  
Legendary singer Maria Muldaur began her recording career in 1963 and continues to collaborate with many iconic musicians of our time. Her mega-hit Midnight at the Oasis landed her on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 1974 when she was a favorite at the Over the Hill Bar & Grill in Stinson Beach. Muldaur’s forty solo albums, some grammy- nominated, revel in American Roots Music, Gospel, R&B, Jazz, and Big Band---with a splash of Rock.
