Wharf Road: A Self-Guided Stroll Through Early Bolinas
Published by Bolinas Museum
Downtown Bolinas is predominately structures from the 1850s to the early 1900s when the community grew up around the wharf and its busy schooner traffic, which facilitated the Bolinas economy. Each building has a piece of town history in its story: house boats from San Francisco Bay, a failed romance leading to a home for a famous California artist, a church moved a mile to become a cheese factory and more. The book is designed as a walking tour, but is interesting to read as well.
A fascinating glimpse of early Bolinas, excerpted from History of Marin County California 1834-1880. Written by J.P.Munroe-Fraser who knew most of the people he wrote about. Published 1880.
