Low Tide Duxbury Reef Walk with Kent Khtikian

Sun. November 20, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm This event has passed

Duxbury Reef, edging the Bolinas headland, is the largest intertidal shale reef in North America and home to an extraordinary diversity and density of marine life. Reef inhabitants have evolved ingenious adaptations to live in an environment that alternates between pounding waves and drying at low tide, yet they are vulnerable to damage by human visitors. Attorney and environmental activist Kent Khtikian created a program, now organized by the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin, to teach citizens to act as docents on the reef, sharing marine ecology and tidepool etiquette with the public. On this walk, Khtikian will lead us in carefully observing and learning about Duxbury Reef’s unique environment and its inhabitants. Space is limited, please make your reservation soon.
