Michael Porter: The Sons and Daughters of Orpheus
June 11 - July 31, 2011
Curated by Lucy Van Sands Seeburg
Michael Porter graduated from UCLA in art and painting, but turned to photography. Today he uses digital techniques to manipulate his images with painterly control, drawing out color and shadow, creating illusions and surprising mirror images.
As a photographer Porter often worked with actors and models, doing portraits and head-shots. He says, “I enjoy making people look good, catching them when they are happy.” So he was naturally drawn to The Sons and Daughters of Orpheus– a riot of colorful, high energy drummers and minimally clad dancers who make everyone happy when they perform in Bolinas 4th of July parades.
Porter and his wife lost their home to the Oakland fire in 1991. Soon after they moved to Coastal Marin and settled in Bolinas.
