Particia Briceno: Dances with Wools
May 4 - June 23, 2013
Curated by Elia Haworth
Bolinas artist Patricia Briceno grew up in the Yucatan where Mayan textiles permeated the culture and inspired her passion for fiber. This exhibition features her skillful felt-making.
Felting is an ancient technique using friction to turn raw wool into dense fabric. It has many applications from yurt walls in Mongolia to the seamless art garments that Patricia is known for. In this exhibition, Patricia has created contemporary textural paintings of felted wool, silk, cotton, Baste bamboo, carbonized bamboo, alpaca and she has used plant material for coloring. The result is sensual and surprising.
