This thought-provoking thirty minute contemporary dance performance was commissioned by Oakland’s Equal Justice Society in 2011, and created in response to their campaign to restore 14th Amendment protections for victims of discrimination. This includes those on death row, where there is a disproportionate number of African Americans and people of color. The work is even more powerful today as California moves toward abolishing the death penalty. This program is presented as part the exhibition FOCUS: Joanna Haigood + Wayne Campbell. A community discussion with the artists and experts in the field follows.

Supported by a generous grant from the West Marin Fund and presented as a way to raise awareness of how women such as nationally celebrated dancer/choreographer and West Marin resident Joanna Haigood are addressing compelling societal issues through the arts.
