Ellen Litwiller: Oceanic

September 23 - November 14, 2017

Curated by Elia Haworth

Growing up in Muir Beach, where her studio is today, the dramatic coastline of Marin County inspired Ellen Litwiller’s limitless curiosity about the natural world around her. After graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she spent twenty years working with scientists and artists, creating murals, models and dioramas that ll natural history museum exhibits with information and a vivid sense of place. As a fine artist, her work addresses both trepidation and wonder. Her paintings and graphite drawings celebrate our planet, moon, tides, the meeting of land and sea, and also express deep concern about climate change, acidification, pollution and their effects on the intricate balance and endless beauty of Earth and Ocean.
