This exhibition is a selection of drawings and writings by Amanda Gracia Blanco (1981-2016). They are part of a modest, intentional body of work made over the last three years of her life.
The drawings are all pencil on Japanese gampi paper. Gampi is a plant that has never been successfully cultivated, and so is wild harvested. The drawings are all from life. The exact dates and titles are unknown.
Her writings are from the same period. They were left on top of her drawings in an unmarked envelope.
Amanda came to Bolinas only once. We ate apricots on a bluff overlooking the ocean and stopped at Gospel Flat on the way back to the City. Most of her life was spent in rural Pennsylvania, where she raised her two children. She was a beloved mother, artist, early childhood teacher, farmer, chef, family member, friend, and my wife.
The most succinct description of her life and work, to me, is from a line she once sent:
“There are no insignificant moments.”
McIntyre Parker (b. 1984, Long Beach) lives in Bolinas, California. Solo exhibitions include Cy, San Francisco (2026); Aléa, Pantin, France (2025); Cushion Works, San Francisco (2024); Altman Siegel, San Francisco (2022); Kunstverein München, Germany (2021); Yale Union, Portland, Oregon (2018); and Odium Fati, San Francisco (2017). He co-organized the group exhibition Cascadence with Grant Mooney (2021); and organized O the sleeping bag contains the body but not the dreaming head (2013), both at Altman Siegel. In 2009 he founded Pied-à-terre, an occasional off-space.
