Bear Flag
January 3 - June 14, 2015
Curated by Elia Haworth
The official California state flag owes its design to a flag hastily fabricated to represent the occupation of the town of Sonoma in 1846. Though a brief event, it became known as the Bear Flag Revolt and contributed to the transformation of California from its Spanish colonial ties to joining the union of the United States. This exhibition traces the history of California’s state flag.
