Elizabeth Opalenik: Mordancage
November 23 - December 31, 2013
Curated by Virginia Felch
Elizabeth Opalenik is a Bay Area photographer and instructor with a passion for the French photographic process, mordançage, where silver emulsion is chemically lifted, removed, or rearranged in the shadow areas during the development of high contrast gelatin silver prints. Oplalenik is known for figurative work where “draped veils” are accomplished by using drops of water to preserve and rearrange the delicate floating silver skin of each image in her darkroom, making each image unique.
