Getting Here from There

Getting to Bolinas from anywhere has always been a challenge. First shown in 2016, historian Dewey Livingston and history curator Elia Haworth collaborated to create this exhibit tracing the fascinating history of traveling to Bolinas—from the first Coast Miwok trails through bear country to modern missing road signs and GPS. In 1910, a young man described traveling from Oakland to Bolinas via two ferry rides, an electric train, a Mt. Tam train, a horse-drawn stage, a boat across Bolinas Lagoon, and then, undaunted, on foot.
