Hans Overduin: The Esthetics of Birds

September 26 - November 15, 2015

Curated by Dieter Tremp

Based in The Netherlands, but at work with his camera on all seven continents, renowned European nature photographer Hans Overduin displays a particular sensitivity for capturing the essential esthetics of his favorite subject: birds. Not bound by the professional biologist’s mandate of identification and documentation, Overduin’s photographs freely focus on the unique expressiveness, composition, and movement of his subjects. Refreshingly artistic, elegant and captivating, this group of images selected by a jury of bird experts, artists and photographers from West Marin exemplifies the esthetic beauty and innate grace of birds.

Jury members: Patricia Briceno, Ryan DiGaudio, Megan Elrod, Geoff Geupel, Keith Hansen, Catherine Hickey, Steve Howell, Janet Kjelmyr, Ewan Macdonald, Ed Musante, Piro Patton, Peter Pyle, and Mike Sell selected the images with particular focus on beauty.
