Hugh Shurley

March 8 - April 27, 2008

Curated by Dieter Tremp

Shurley combines traditional photography and collage techniques.  He begins by printing his original image on several layers of glass, so one is literally looking into his photograph. Then he layers inpieces of other photos and ephemera and creates multi layered images that project a strange and mysterious world of their own. We seem to be  looking through layers of the very psyche of people and places. They are disturbing, haunting, fascinating and lovely images.

Shurly’s work is in major collections and has been published in many national periodicals and used on book jackets as well as exhibited in galleries around the country.
