Josie Iselin: The Secret Life of Seaweed

October 12 - November 17, 2013

Inspired by the architecture and brilliant colors discovered in seaweed found at Bolinas’s Duxbury Reef, San Francisco photographer, writer, book designer and life long beachcomber Josie Iselin has created large scale color portraits that reveal the intricate structure and rich hues of these often overlooked elements of the sea. These portraits bridge the divide between the traditional pressed seaweed specimens used by naturalists and scientists and a contemporary art format providing a nexus where art and the natural world converge.
