Reflections From The Lake
Morris Graves / Kay Russell
September 29 - November 11, 2012
Curated by Barbara Janeff
This is a three-part story about Morris Graves, a very important mid-to-late 20th century painter who began with a group of Pacific Northwest artists who were profoundly influenced by Asian art, religion and philosophy; about ‘The Lake,’ Graves’ remote and enchanting home for his last 35 years and now the Morris Graves Foundation where many Bay Area artists have been ‘residents;’ and about how a residency at ‘The Lake’ influenced Kay Russell, a well known watercolor painter and teacher. It is a story of East meets West on the Pacific Rim and a ‘new’ or renewed American aesthetic.
