Marie Dern (1936-2020) & Jana Harris (b. 1947) JUNGLE GARDEN PRESS

San Francisco born Jana Harris is an award winning poet, educator, and founder and editor of Switched-on Gutenberg, which was one of the earliest electronic poetry journals of the internet. Harris has taught creative writing at the University of Washington since 1986. Harris attended University of Oregon, then earned her M.A. from San Francisco State University in 1972. The 1970s was an extraordinary era of social activism, including the Women’s Movement, which Dern was involved in. Dern started Jungle Garden Press in part in response to the Movement, so that she could publish books like Harris’s Who’s That Pushy Bitch.
