Photographs by M.B. Boissevain: Marin County's First Farm Advisor

September 24 - January 1, 2017

Curated by Elia Haworth

M.B. Boissevain became Marin County’s first Farm Advisor in 1920 through University of California Cooperative Extension. A talented photographer, Boissevain captured remarkable images of the people and places he visited during the 1920s,1930s, and 1940s. He photographed high school student farm visits as well as the ranchers, farmers, their animals, crops, and land. This exhibit presents a selection of photos taken in coastal Marin with a camera that shot 4 x 5 inch negatives. These reproductions of the original images are on loan from University of California Cooperative Extension Marin (also known as the Farm Advisor’s office), which continues to be a significant creative resource for sustaining agriculture.
