History Collection Highlights
Bolinas Museum was originally established to preserve and share the fascinating history of Bolinas, beginning with the Coast Miwok people, the early settlement of San Francisco, and the Gold Rush. The museum’s archives and history collection include photographs, documents, letters, oral histories, maps, and artifacts. These objects trace many stories about families, ranching, schooner building, shipwrecks, surfing, scientists, artists, and poets. The museum also collects records of more contemporary history, from narratives of national leaders in organic farming to grassroots activists who preserved the area’s natural environment and small-town lifestyle. Bolinas Museum collaborates with other historical societies and museums of coastal Marin and the Bay Area to preserve our history for locals and visitors alike.
