Five generations of Briones women
c. 1890
Grigorio and Ramona Briones and their children took over Rancho Las Baulines from her brother in 1837. Their descendents contributed to developing the town of Bolinas. This image is unique because it depicts five generations of Briones women, from Ramona to her great great granddaughter. Back row right to left: Ramona Garcia Briones Muños (she remarried after Grigorio’s death). Her daughter Maria del Rosario Briones Nott Mesa, and Rosario’s daughter Francisca Nott Clark. On the steps is Francisca’s daughter Francis Clark McGovern and Francis’s young daughter Elsie. At the time Francis was pregnant with a second daughter. The photograph is taken on the steps of the Nott dairy ranch, today known as Commonweal Garden, on Mesa Road.
