c. 1986
Karin Wikström was an active artist and creative practitioner who lived and worked in Bolinas—along with her husband, Stephen Rappaport, and son, Noam Rappaport—from the late 1970s through the late 1980s. She was deeply involved with the Bolinas artistic community, producing drawings, prints, illustrations, sculptures, and paintings, as well as organizing local events. Wikström was mostly known for her line work—in printmaking (linocuts and woodblock)—and ceramics. Together with her husband, Stephen Rappaport, she produced a range of ceramics, where Stephen did the throwing and Karin did the painting. In addition to producing her own prints, she also illustrated books and publications and worked in graphic design, often producing community-based booklets, pamphlets, and posters. Several of her woodcut book illustrations (for Yolla Bolla Press) are housed in Princeton University’s Special Collections, Firestone Library.
Karin Wikström’s artwork was featured in Bolinas Museum’s 2024 exhibition New Geographies, curated by Ivan Iannoli.
